In the US state of Alabama, there is a plan to execute a prisoner by forcing him to breathe pure nitrogen. This is reported by the Associated Press.

According to the agency, the state prosecutor's office sent a petition to the local high court asking to set the date of execution of Kenneth Eugene Smith. Originally, this man was supposed to be executed by injection in 2022, but it was not possible to inject him.

As a result, it was decided to kill the American by nitrogen hypoxia - he was deprived of oxygen and breathed only with nitrogen. It is noted that this type of execution is officially allowed in three states, but it has never been used before.
