At least 27 people have become victims of the consequences of the passage of the Pacific hurricane "Otis", which earlier intensified to the fifth category on the Saffir-Simpson scale, through Mexico. This was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Public Security and Protection of Citizens Rosa Isela Rodriguez.
"The reports of the government of the [affected] state of [Guerrero] report 27 dead and 4 missing, we are monitoring the development of the situation," she said at a press conference broadcast on the website of the government of the country.
Streets in several cities of the state remain flooded, many damaged houses require repairs. Several key state roads remain blocked, and there is also no connection to several areas due to damage to power lines. According to official data, the impact of the elements left about 300 thousand people without power supply, at the moment utilities are working on its restoration. About 8.5 thousand servicemen and 1.3 thousand employees of energy companies were involved in the work to eliminate the consequences of the hurricane in the region.
Hurricane Otis made landfall near Acapulco on Wednesday night. It is noted that the maximum speed of wind gusts within the hurricane reached 75 m/s.
