Housewives in India are also getting paid!

Housekeeping is now a paid job in India. This is because a unique social program has been introduced for housewives. About 118 million women in at least 12 states receive a monthly salary of 1,000-2,500 Indian rupees ($12-30). The payments are transferred to the woman's bank account without proof of employment or expense reports.
The goal is to recognize domestic work economically and increase women's independence and influence in the family. These funds, although small, are important for those living in rural areas and low-income families.
Experts say that if the Indian experiment is successful, other countries will also study policies that value women's domestic work.
