In India, a young man deliberately cut off part of his leg to get into university

In the city of Jaunpur, India, 24-year-old Suraj Bhaskar intentionally cut off part of his left leg in order to enter a medical college through benefits provided for people with disabilities. At first, he reported to the police that unknown attackers had assaulted him. However, during the investigation, syringes, anesthetic drugs, and cutting tools were found at the scene, revealing that he had done it himself.

It was reported that Suraj Bhaskar had studied pharmacy and wanted to continue his education in medicine. A note was also found in his diary saying: “In 2026, I will enter the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program by any means.”

He is currently receiving treatment in hospital. The police are considering legal action for filing a false report, misleading the investigation, and abusing the quota system.
