In Azerbaijan for 10 months. Almost 127 million manats were returned to the population as part of the VAT refund mechanism

In Azerbaijan, in January-October 2023, within the framework of the “Part of VAT Refund Mechanism,” 126.6 million manats were returned to the population, reports the State Tax Service (STS).

“For January-October of this year, VAT in the amount of 126.6 million manats was returned to consumers registered on the portal,” the information notes.

As previously reported, in March 2020, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approved the “Mechanism for the return of part of the VAT.” According to the mechanism, Azerbaijani citizens can receive part of the VAT during payments at trade or food establishments within 30 days.

According to the mechanism, those wishing to use the VAT refund service must register on a special portal. When purchasing, the consumer must request from the seller a receipt for the cash register and an extract from the POS terminal, if the terminal is not linked to the cash register.

Refund of part of the VAT for payments in retail or food establishments provides for the return of 5% of VAT for cash payments and 17.5% of VAT for non-cash payments.
