In Uzbekistan, 1415 people died as a result of road traffic accidents during the months of January-August 2023. Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security, Senator Talibjon Madumarov announced this at the next plenary session of the Senate.
According to Madumarov, over 9 million traffic violations were registered in the country in the last eight months. Of these
About 8 million gross violations,
about 26 thousand driving under the influence of alcohol,
More than 161,000 pedestrians were involved in the violation.
As a result, 5,772 traffic accidents occurred during this period, 5,448 people were injured and 1,415 people died. At the previous plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security Issues, Qutbitdin Burkhanov, reported that 1,115 people died and 4,564 people were injured in various physical injuries as a result of accidents observed in the country for seven months. It follows that in August alone, 300 people became victims of accidents.
According to Talibjon Madumarov, there are about 11,000 pedestrian crossings across the republic, and 1,834 of them have traffic lights or other road signs that ensure pedestrian safety.
"This is not even 30% of the total number. In most unregulated pedestrian crossings, signs warning drivers about this object in time were not installed and road lines were not drawn," the senator said.
He noted that most of the accidents occur in the evening due to lack of adequate artificial lighting at unregulated pedestrian crossings during the dark hours of the day. According to the analysis, during 2021-2023, 2,784 accidents were committed at unregulated pedestrian crossings, and 1,007 of them were committed in the dark.
"Drivers' failure to give way to pedestrians at unregulated pedestrian crossings also causes an increase in accidents. Such cases are increasing year by year," the senator noted.
