In Afghanistan, books written by women have been banned.

The Taliban government has banned the use of books authored by women as textbooks in Afghan universities. According to the BBC, a total of 680 books were deemed to contradict Sharia and government policy, 140 of which were written by women. Even scientific and methodological manuals were included in the list.

In addition, 18 subjects have been prohibited from being taught in higher education institutions. Six of them are related to women’s issues: subjects such as “Gender and Development,” “The Role of Women in Communication,” and “Sociology of Women” are no longer taught.

The ban also applies to books by Iranian authors and those published by Iranian publishing houses. Experts say this decision will create a significant gap in higher education in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, by order of the Taliban’s supreme leader, fiber-optic internet has been cut off in at least 10 provinces of the country. Officials explained this measure as a way to “prevent immorality.”
