Hungary’s Prime Minister will change: Orbán has been defeated.
In Hungary’s parliamentary elections held on April 12, the opposition “Tisa” party won, bringing an end to Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule. Forces led by party leader Péter Magyar received 53.6% of the vote and secured 138 out of 199 seats in parliament. Orbán’s “Fidesz” party received 37.8% of the vote, gaining 55 seats.
Voter turnout reached 77.8%, one of the highest in the country’s history. Orbán acknowledged his defeat and congratulated his opponent on the victory.
