India had banned the export of rice to Uzbekistan and other countries to prevent a sharp increase in the price of cereals. On the extent to which this situation affects the rice market in Uzbekistan, the head of the Information Service of the Ministry of Agriculture Dilshod Nazirov commented on the “river”.
It is reported that over 100,000 hectares of rice are planted and grown annually in Uzbekistan. In the conditions of the Republic, the average per capita consumption of rice is required from 9.8 kilograms per year. That is, in order to fully provide the population of the Republic with rice products, a reserve of 353 thousand tons of rice is needed.
"Imports of rice were 29.3 thousand tons (54.7 percent) from Kazakhstan, 23.2 thousand tons (43.3 percent) from Pakistan, 599 tons (1.1 percent) from Thailand, 265 tons (0.5 percent) from Turkey and 126 tons (0.2 percent) from India and 21.1 tons (0.02 percent) from other countries.
Considering the above, a total of 232.6 tons of rice imports from India to our republic have been carried out in the last 5 years. This year, India's cessation of rice exports to other countries will not have an impact on Uzbekistan,” the ministry said in a statement.
For reference, Indian rice exports are the 1st largest in the world, accounting for 36.8 percent of total world exports, with major exports to African countries (7.1 million tons), China (2.1 million tons), Iran (1.2 million tons), Saudi Arabia (1012 thousand tons) and other countries.
