House-museum of People's Poet of Uzbekistan Abdulla Oripov Opens in the USA

A house-museum dedicated to the memory of People's Poet of Uzbekistan Abdulla Oripov has opened in Houston, Texas, USA. The museum was established in the apartment where the poet spent the last years of his life, and houses Abdulla Oripov's creative heritage, personal belongings, and various exhibits related to his life.

The opening ceremony was attended by the poet's wife Hanifa Aya, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, as well as compatriots living in the USA, journalists, and bloggers. It was reported that the initiative to establish a house-museum was first put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during one of his meetings in Kashkadarya. After that, work began on the implementation of this project. It is expected that this house-museum will serve to promote the rich literary heritage of Abdulla Oripov and pass it on to future generations.

For your information, Abdulla Oripov (1941–2016) is one of the major figures of modern Uzbek literature, the author of such famous poems and epics as “My Homeland”, “Uzbekistan”, “Sahibqiron”, “Haj Daftari”. The poet was also engaged in translation, translating Dante’s famous work “Divine Comedy” into Uzbek. Abdulla Oripov also wrote the National Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In 1998, he was awarded the title of Hero of Uzbekistan.
