Hotel owner in Tashkent sentenced to 8 years in prison for death of Russian journalist

In a tragic incident at the Karaman Palace Hotel in Tashkent in October 2024, Russian journalist Inessa Papernaya and two other people died as a result of gas poisoning in the pool.

On July 25, 2025, at an open hearing in Yakkasaroy District Court, the hotel owner was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The three men who sold and installed the heating boiler received 3 years in prison.

All were found guilty under Section 186 (4) "(A)" of the Criminal Code (causing death as a result of the provision of goods and services that do not meet safety requirements).

The court determined that the legal representative of the killed journalist would be charged 67.5 mln, and the representatives of another deceased would be charged 60.6 mln.
