Historic Victory: Uzbek Rowers Become World Champions for the First Time
Uzbekistan’s Shahzod Nurmatov and Sobir Safaraliyev have won gold medals at the World Rowing Championships for senior athletes.
Competing in the lightweight double sculls (LM2x) event at the championship being held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the Uzbek athletes finished in first place.
This marks Uzbekistan’s first-ever gold medal at the senior World Rowing Championships.
Representatives of Germany won the silver medal, while athletes from the United States took bronze.
Shahzod Nurmatov said he dedicated the championship victory to the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Independence.
