At the 46th World Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan’s men’s national team won the gold medal, becoming Olympic champions for the second time. The team collected 20 points after 11 rounds and finished in first place.
Following the historic victory, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the Uzbek chess players. The head of state specifically recognized the team’s achievement and expressed gratitude to the chess players, coaches and national team representatives.
On September 28, by presidential decree, athletes and specialists who successfully participated in the 46th World Chess Olympiad and the 3rd World Para Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand were awarded state honors.
In particular, Muhiddin Madaminov received the honorary title “Pride of Uzbekistan.” Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Shamsiddin Vohidov and Nodirbek Yakubboyev were awarded the honorary title “Honored Athlete of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
Javokhir Sindarov was awarded the “For Selfless Service” Order, while Jahongir Vohidov received the “Mardlik” (Courage) Order. Head coach Rustam Kasimjanov was awarded the honorary title “Honored Sports Coach of the Republic of Uzbekistan.” Other members of the national team and representatives of the chess community also received various state awards.
The Olympiad in Samarkand was significant for Uzbekistan not only as a historic sporting victory but also as the first major chess competition of its kind to be held in the country. According to FIDE, Uzbekistan defeated Ukraine 2.5–1.5 in the final round to claim the Olympic gold.
