Historic electricity consumption record: 14 GW in a single day
According to the Ministry of Energy, on July 20, Uzbekistan’s unified power system set a historic record for both electricity consumption and generation.
As of 5:22 p.m., electricity consumption across the country reached 14 GW, while electricity generation totaled 14.2 GW. The ministry stated that these figures are the highest ever recorded in the history of the country's power sector.
According to the ministry, the record level of electricity consumption was caused by the intense heat experienced in recent days. Last week, air temperatures in some regions rose to 49°C (120.2°F). Starting from July 20–21, temperatures across the country began to gradually decrease.
