Historic Decision in Turkey: Equal Labor Rights for Turkic Nations

According to a new decree signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, foreign citizens of Turkic origin can now freely work in Turkey in their professions and trades — just like Turkish nationals.

The decision is part of an updated law allowing “Turkic-speaking foreigners to work freely in public and private institutions or workplaces in Turkey.”

To obtain a work permit, applicants must meet the following conditions:
• possess a residence permit in Turkey;
• ensure that their professional activity does not pose a threat to national security;
• have their foreign diplomas or certificates officially recognized;
• and belong to a Turkic ethnic group.
