High-pressure natural gas discovered in Karakalpakstan

Industrial-scale natural gas flow has been detected in the Shagirlik-Lower Jurassic-2 exploration well located in the Muynak district of Karakalpakstan. Uzbekneftegaz reported this. The well is located near the Muynak field in the Ustyurt region and was drilled to a depth of 5,265 meters on January 10, 2026. High-pressure gas deposits were recorded between 5,265 and 5,061 meters.
This area was prepared based on 3D seismic surveys. In order to further identify gas reserves, it is planned to drill new exploration wells No. 3 and 4 in this area.
