Heatwave in Europe kills more than 1,300

More than 1,300 people have died in Europe since June 21 as a result of an abnormal heatwave, the World Health Organization said.
The highest number of victims was recorded in France. The country has registered almost 1,000 more deaths than expected since June 24. Most of the victims were citizens over 65 years old.
In recent days, temperature records have also been broken in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. In some areas, the air temperature exceeded 41 degrees.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that extreme heat waves, which were previously rare due to climate change, are now recurring almost every year. For this reason, mass events have been canceled in some countries and emergency safety measures have been tightened.
