“Headscarf” Campaign Launched in France in Support of Muslim Women

A solidarity campaign has been launched on social media in France in response to a proposal by the far-right National Rally party to ban the wearing of hijabs in public places.

Many French women who do not normally wear the hijab are sharing photos and videos on TikTok, Instagram and X showing themselves wearing headscarves. Through the campaign, they are expressing their support for Muslim women.

Some men have also joined the campaign. They too are covering their heads with headscarves and posting videos on social media.

The main message of the campaign is: “If this law is passed, I will wear the hijab too.”

The far-right forces plan to put the issue of banning the hijab in public places to a referendum if they come to power following the 2027 presidential election.
