Israel has registered its first patient with hantavirus. It is reported that the patient may have contracted the virus during a trip to Eastern Europe several months ago.
Initial tests revealed signs of hantavirus, and the disease was later officially confirmed through a PCR test. The patient is currently in stable condition and does not require intensive care.
Experts said the strain of the virus detected is different from the strain previously spread on the MV Hondius cruise ship. According to WHO, three people died from hantavirus on this ship and several others were infected.
Hantavirus is transmitted to humans mainly by rodents and can cause serious damage to the lungs and kidneys.
