On August 2, 2011, amendments and additions were made to the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Holidays", in accordance with this, April 8 is annually declared in the country as the Day of Economists.
In modern Tajikistan, economists make a huge contribution to the solution of important socio-economic problems, contribute to the sustainable economic development of the republic. The improvement of the country's economic situation is evidenced by GDP growth indicators, budget, monetary incomes of the population, as well as a decrease in poverty.
As Saodat Jurakhonzoda, Deputy Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted in the conversation, since gaining independence in 1991, Tajikistan has come a long way in terms of forming its own statehood. For 30 years, its own economy, political system have been created, our own army and security system have been formed.
"Economic reforms in Tajikistan, carried out over several decades, have provided great opportunities for economic development. Thus, the average annual economic development is ensured at the level of 7.5%, the country's gross domestic product from 1.8 billion somoni in 2000 was brought to 115 billion somoni in 2022. Since 2015, the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan until 2030 has been implemented, which reflects the main strategic goals, such as food security, overcoming the communication deadlock, energy independence, industrialization of the economy and productive employment," the economist cited.
With a view to the systematic development of the national economy, fundamental reforms have been carried out in the field of agriculture, land use and the creation of dehkan farms. According to statistics, in 2022 there were 186.3 thousand dehkan farms in Tajikistan, which is 56% of the total number of individual entrepreneurs. The volume of gross agricultural output in all spheres in January 2023 amounted to 874.4 million somoni, which is an increase of 2022.5% compared to the same period in 7.
To bring the republic out of the communication deadlock and turn it into a transit country, 59 state investment projects worth 24 billion somoni were implemented, 2400 km of roads, 326 bridges, 6 road tunnels and 219 km of railways were built and commissioned.
According to the assessment of the World Economic Forum, according to the rating of road quality, the Republic of Tajikistan ranks 50th among 138 countries.
Currently, 17 investment projects are being implemented for a total amount of 11 billion somoni. Over the past three years, it is planned to implement 6 projects worth 7.4 billion somoni, 32 bridges, 317 kilometers of international roads, 5 tunnels with a length of 11.2 kilometers and 7 anti-avalanche corridors will be put into operation.
"Now Tajikistan ranks 6th in the world in the production of "green" energy, 98% of electricity is produced by hydroelectric power plants. " Green energy is one of the priorities of the competitiveness of the economy of Tajikistan, major projects are being implemented for the construction of hydroelectric power plants and over the next 7 years, due to the construction of the Rogun HPP, the reconstruction of other hydroelectric power plants - Nurek, Sarband and Kairakkum, the country's energy capacity will increase by an additional 4 thousand megawatts. The energy independence of Tajikistan is one of the opportunities to achieve an important strategic goal - the accelerated industrialization of the country," Saodat Jurakhonzoda added.
