😵 Global warming is increasing sleep apnea

According to a new study by Bastien Leshat, a sleep expert at Flinders University in Australia, global warming is causing a sharp increase in the number of people who stop breathing during sleep, or sleep apnea. He analyzed sleep data from 116,000 people in 41 countries and found that the condition is 45% more common on hot nights.
In 2023 alone, the problem cost the global economy $30 billion.
Hot nights are reducing sleep quality even in healthy people. The study found that sleep problems are significantly more common in areas with nighttime temperatures around 27°C than in cooler areas. The impact was particularly strong in Europe, where air conditioning is less common.
Experts recommend taking measures against global warming, using cooling devices and improving the sleeping environment. Otherwise, this situation may increase two to three times in the coming decades.
