Georgia's "First Channel" reports that the Parliament of Georgia failed to impeach President Salome Zurabishvili. In order to declare impeachment, 100 of the 150 deputies of the parliament had to vote for him.

At the meeting held on October 18, 86 deputies supported the impeachment, one voted against it. The rest of the members of the parliament did not participate in the voting.

The ruling Georgian Dream party, which has 84 seats in the parliament, started the impeachment process.

Before the start of the voting, the leader of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, Irakli Kobakhidze, spoke before the deputies and presented evidence in support of the impeachment. Then Salome Zurabishvili gave a speech. After his exit, the Georgian president refused to answer the questions of the deputies.

For the first time in its history, the Georgian parliament tried to impeach the president. The procedure began after the Constitutional Court issued the appropriate permission: the court noted that Zurabishvili, during his practical visits abroad in August and September, performed representative functions in the field of international relations without the consent of the Georgian government, thereby violating Article 52 of the Georgian Constitution.

Salome Zurabishvili has been working as the President of Georgia since December 16, 2018. He openly criticized the government's decisions several times.

In Georgia, a parliamentary republic, the powers of the president are limited.
