Gambling advertisement placed in front of Bukhara madrasa not approved
A press conference for a mixed martial arts (MMA) competition was scheduled to be held in Bukhara on April 30 at the Nodir Devonbegi madrasa.
A large banner advertising the tournament was installed in front of the madrasa, which caused widespread discussion due to the fact that it contained the logos of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the 1Xbet betting company.
Moreover, this situation is completely contrary to the requirements of current legislation.
The Press Service of the Cultural Heritage Agency informed CASIA that holding any public events on the territory of cultural heritage sites must be coordinated with the Cultural Heritage Agency in the prescribed manner and an appropriate permit must be obtained. In this case, these requirements were not met.
It was reported that the control plan for holding the event, approved by the Deputy Governor of Bukhara region B. Odilov, was not agreed with the Cultural Heritage Agency.
In connection with the incident, on April 28, 2026, the Bukhara regional department of the Agency issued a letter of instruction to the responsible persons to suspend the event until the appropriate permit was obtained. However, it was found that the event was held without fulfilling the requirements of this instruction, and on April 29, 2026, the relevant act was issued and the situation was documented in accordance with the established procedure.
Based on the collected materials, an administrative report was drawn up in accordance with Part 1 of Article 198⁵ of the Code of Administrative Responsibility of Uzbekistan, and the case documents were sent to the judicial authorities in accordance with the procedure established by law.
