In areas where the groundwater level has decreased by more than 5 meters compared to the average long-term level, groundwater can be used only for drinking purposes. From January 1, 2024, it is prohibited to use underground water intake facilities without meters. Nurbek Polatov, head of the department of the Ministry of Mining and Geology, informed about this.

In 21 districts of 7 regions of the republic, cases of groundwater level falling by 5 meters or more were recorded, and a moratorium on drilling and using water wells was introduced in these areas. Moratorium areas are updated annually based on groundwater conditions and published on the ministry's website and other public sources.
