French citizen on cruise ship shows symptoms of hantavirus

French authorities on May 10 evacuated more than 90 citizens from a cruise ship where a dangerous hantavirus outbreak had previously been reported. According to reports, one passenger developed symptoms associated with the virus during a flight to Paris.

Local media stated that the passenger experienced fever, weakness, and breathing difficulties. Following this, the individual and other tourists were immediately placed under medical supervision.

All evacuated tourists were transferred to a specialized hospital in Paris. They will remain under strict quarantine for 72 hours and undergo full medical examinations. Doctors will monitor their condition and check for possible signs of infection.

After the initial examinations, the citizens will be required to remain in home isolation for 45 days. During this period, they will continue to be monitored by medical specialists.

Earlier, reports said that at least three passengers aboard the cruise ship died due to hantavirus. As a result, several countries launched emergency evacuations of their citizens from the vessel.

Hantavirus is considered a dangerous infection usually transmitted through rodents. In severe cases, the disease can seriously damage the lungs and kidneys. Experts note that the virus does not spread easily between humans, but they continue to urge strict precautionary measures.
