Over the past six days, the number of active forest fires in Canada has increased from 590 to 734, and the area destroyed by the fire has grown to 9 million hectares.
According to the forest fire department, 430 of the 734 fires have yet to be controlled.
Most fires were reported in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario. The spread of the fire is also caused by the hot weather that dominates almost the entire territory of the country. In some regions, the air temperature is rising above 40 degrees.
Canadian Emergency Preparedness Minister William Blair called the current forest fire season the worst in the country's history. According to forecasts, dry weather will prevail even in July—August, and will continue to negatively affect the situation.
At least 1.8 thousand foreign firefighters were recruited from 10 countries — Australia, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, the United States, France, Chile and South Africa-to help fight forest fires in the country. The Canadian Armed Forces are also involved in the firefight. In total, about five thousand people are involved in extinguishing the fire.
