On April 27, Tajik doctors for the first time performed an operation to cut the stomach in the “Republican Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery” of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan in three cases of obesity. The operation was successful, and in the postoperative nights the condition of the patients is relatively satisfactory, they are active on the bed and in the ward, the press center of the Ministry informed NIAT "Khovar".

According to the source, this operation was performed by laparoscopic method, without a large incision in the patient's abdominal cavity, which is an achievement in the field of surgery of the country.

It was stated that within the framework of cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and Turkey, three doctors of the State Institution "Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery" had previously completed a refresher course in bariatric surgery at the Memorial Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

On April 27, after purchasing the necessary equipment and consumables, doctors of Tajikistan and Turkey at the Republican Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery successfully underwent gastric incision surgery in three obese people.

It should be noted that in recent years, the problem of increasing obesity among the population has caused concern among medical professionals. Prevention of obesity is currently a priority health problem in most countries of the world. The issues of studying, prevention and treatment of obesity within the framework of the "Strategy on Nutrition and Physical Activity in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2015-2024", approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated December 31, 2014, are identified as priority interdisciplinary issues.

Since the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, obesity and its complex consequences have been an unsolved intersectoral problem in most countries of the world, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a global disease.

Currently, Tajikistan has adopted a "Program for the prevention of obesity and the formation of a healthy diet in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2019-2024", which covers all segments of the population. This program prevents obesity and promotes public health.

The doctors of the institution plan to widely perform such operations in patients in the future.
