Five Uzbeks Arrested in Turkey with 61 kg of Gold

Turkish law enforcement officers detained five Uzbek citizens — three women and two men — for attempting to smuggle gold into the country.

The suspects arrived at Nevşehir Airport in Cappadocia from Uzbekistan via Istanbul. During inspection, authorities discovered 61 kilograms and 121 grams of gold, valued at approximately 8 million USD, hidden inside parts of meat grinders and mixers that had been melted down to disguise the metal.

According to the investigation, the police had prior intelligence about the smuggling attempt. A man who came to meet the group at the airport was also detained. The gold has been confiscated, and the case has been transferred to the judicial authorities.
