Spanish amateur photographer Ángel Hidalgo has captured the first-ever photo of a white Pyrenean (or Iberian) lynx. This is one of the rarest wild cat species in the world.
Ángel Hidalgo works at a construction materials factory, but in his free time he enjoys photographing nature. One day, while reviewing his camera, he saw something no one had ever seen before — a white lynx.
The white lynx is white due to a genetic mutation called leucism. In this case, the animal has no color in its fur and skin, but its eyes are not as white as those of albinos.

According to National Geographic, last year the Pyrenean lynx was downgraded from “endangered” to “vulnerable” — a major conservation achievement for Spain. There are now about 2,400 lynxes living on the Iberian Peninsula.
