First Photos of Maduro From U.S. Prison Released

Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has published the first photos taken inside a U.S. prison on his social media accounts.

The photos show him wearing gray sportswear at a federal prison in Brooklyn, New York, making a “V” sign with both hands. Maduro has been held at the facility since he was taken out of Venezuela.

The former president wrote that he sent the photos as a “small gift” to his grandchildren, children, and people who support him. He also said that he remains determined and believes Venezuela will rise again.

63-year-old Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were detained by U.S. forces on January 3. They are facing charges in the United States related to drug trafficking and weapons offenses. The trial is expected to begin on June 1, 2027.
