Fire Festival in India

Hundreds of Hindu devotees in India took part in a traditional fire festival to pay homage to the goddess. Devotees gathered at the temple of the warrior goddess Durga Parameshwari threw burning torches at each other. The ritual, they believe, drives away evil and frees participants from diseases. Participants are divided into two groups and throw burning torches at each other. During the event, people who have been burned are sprinkled with red powder mixed with saffron.
