The decision was made despite objections from Iran and Egypt. The federations of both countries had asked for LGBT events not to be held, arguing that such symbols were against the cultural and religious values of both countries. However, FIFA rejected these demands, stating that the World Cup is an open and inclusive competition for all, and that symbols supporting human rights would be allowed.
