Fathers in Uzbekistan to be granted 5-day paternity leave

On May 5, deputies approved a draft law in the first reading aimed at improving labor relations.
According to the bill, men who become fathers will be entitled to 5 days of paid leave within one month after the birth of their child. During this time, they will have the opportunity to care for their spouse and newborn.
This draft law was first proposed in 2024. Until now, such leave has not been provided for in national legislation.
"If a child is born into a family, men are being given the opportunity to take five days of paid leave within a month after the birth to assist their wives," said Deputy Nodir Tilavoldiyev regarding the bill.
Additionally, the document provides for changes such as compensation for each day of delayed wages, increased liability for informal employment, simplification of the hiring process (using the PINFL as the primary document), granting legal force to electronic documents, and strengthening measures against workplace violence and harassment.
