Fatal accident of two buses in Almaty: the driver received a prison sentence

The Almalinsky District Court of Almaty has considered a criminal case against a bus driver accused of violating traffic rules that caused the death of a person. According to the court materials, the defendant on November 8, 2022, at about 14.00, driving bus No. 98, was moving south along Abylai Khan Street. At the intersection of Abylai Khan and Tole bi streets, he ran a red traffic light and collided with bus No. 201, which was moving along Tole bi Street. As a result of the accident, the passengers of bus No. 98 fell out, the injured man was under the bus and died from his injuries. Two more people received injuries of varying severity. It is noted that the defendant did not admit his guilt and asked the court to acquit him. Nevertheless, the court found the bus driver guilty and imposed a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a period of 2 years and 6 months and an additional penalty of deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 5 years. In addition, in favor of Sh. and K., as moral damage, 2 million tenge was collected for each, as material damage in favor of Sh. 323,885 tenge was recovered," the court said. The verdict has not entered into force. Recall that we are talking about a traffic accident that occurred in November last year at the intersection of Tole Bi Street and Abylai Khan Avenue. Then, as a result of the collision of the 98th and 201st routes, 21 people were injured, another one was killed.
