President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with the Agricola Medal, the highest award of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu presented the award during a meeting in Uzbekistan on October 6. The medal was awarded in recognition of the head of state's initiatives and achievements in ensuring food security and developing the agriculture and water sectors.
Discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the FAO, digitizing agriculture, implementing artificial intelligence technologies, and attracting climate finance.
The Agricola Medal was established by the FAO in 1977 and is awarded to prominent figures who have contributed to ending hunger and ensuring food security.
Uzbekistan has been elected to the FAO Council for the first time for the 2028–2029 term. Plans are in place to launch an Agro-Innovation Hub for landlocked countries in Tashkent on October 7.
