Explosions in Venezuela: Power outages in parts of the capital

A series of explosions rocked the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on January 3. Witnesses said at least seven explosions were heard in the southern part of the city, near a large military base. As a result, power outages occurred in several districts.
Local residents reported that planes flew over the city at the same time as the explosions, and gunfire was heard in some places. Videos of US military helicopters flying in the sky over Caracas are circulating on social media. According to unconfirmed reports, US attack helicopters have begun striking Venezuelan ground targets. 
The Venezuelan government said that President Nicolas Maduro had ordered all national defense plans to be put on full alert. The statement noted that they would be activated at the appropriate time and under appropriate conditions.
