Explosion Occurred Near Hotel in Damascus Where French President Was Staying

Videos of an explosion near the Four Seasons hotel in Damascus have spread on social media. Reports say that at the time, French President Emmanuel Macron was staying at this hotel.

Syrian officials stated that 18 people, including 4 police officers, were injured in the blasts. According to preliminary information, one explosive device was placed in a trash bin and another in a car near the hotel.

Macron arrived in Syria on an official visit to meet the country’s new leader Ahmad ash‑Sharaa to discuss security, regional cooperation, Syria’s reconstruction, and investment issues. This is the first visit by a European Union head of state to Syria since the overthrow of Bashar Assad’s regime in 2024.
