Explosion in a mosque in Syria: casualties reported

On December 26, an explosion occurred at the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Homs, Syria, after Friday prayers. At least 6 people were killed and more than 20 were injured. Security forces are currently controlling the area and conducting an investigation.

It is reported that the attack targeted an Alawite mosque, which may increase sectarian tensions in the country. No group has claimed responsibility so far, although ISIS activity has reportedly increased.

Recently, US and Syrian government forces have been conducting operations against ISIS, including eliminating a leader known as Abu Omar Shaddod. The current attack highlights that security in the country remains unstable.
