Explosion at a mosque in Nigeria leaves casualties.

On December 24, an explosion occurred during evening prayers at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State. At least seven people were killed and 35 others were injured. The blast happened at around 6:00 p.m. local time at a mosque in the Gamboru market area.

Police confirmed the incident and said that special bomb disposal units are working at the scene. Reports on the number of victims vary: officials state that five people were killed, while local sources report 7–8 fatalities.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined. The incident occurred in a region that has been relatively calm in recent years but was previously affected by Boko Haram activity.
