The fate of the Black Sea grain transportation initiative depends on the West. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this at the annual conference of Turkish ambassadors in Ankara on August 8.
The restoration of the "grain agreement" that allowed the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea ports during the war "depends on the Western countries that must fulfill these promises," the Turkish leader was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
At the same time, Erdoğan criticized the West for not taking measures "to take advantage of the positive environment created by the Don initiative and allow for a ceasefire and a long-term peace."

At the same time, the Turkish leader emphasized that the position of his country is "clear". Erdogan warned that if the war spreads to the Black Sea, it will be a disaster for the entire region.
"However, a solution can be found," he added, referring to a recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Moscow's demands" made during that conversation were taken into account, Erdogan said, without revealing any other details.
Before the cancellation of the "Grain Agreement", Moscow expressed its dissatisfaction several times that the part of the agreement related to the export of Russian fertilizers was not implemented. At the same time, the Kremlin criticized the West and noted that, according to its observations, a large part of Ukrainian grain is not sent to countries suffering from hunger, but remains in Western markets.
According to AFP, during the Black Sea grain initiative, Ukraine managed to export 33 million tons of grain from its ports to the world market.
