According to the forecast, this year in Tajikistan on an area of 10 thousand 725 hectares it is planned to sow rice, the Ministry of Agriculture of the country told NIAT Khovar.

Rice is considered one of the most consumed cereals because it ranks second in the world in terms of growing area and yield. In Tajikistan, 13 varieties of rice are grown, and its annual consumption is from 12 to 15 kg per person.

In order to ensure the population's access to high-quality nutrition and the implementation of one of the strategic goals of the Government of the country - to ensure food security, it is recommended to reserve more products. Rice crops can be stored without processing for several years. In this regard, agricultural producers need to reserve rice as much as possible and thus ensure the abundance of rice in the consumer market.

The leader of the nation, the respected Emomali Rahmon, amid the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, urged residents to stock up on essential products for two years. The head of state then stressed: "Tajikistan should provide the domestic market with its products and increase crops of potatoes, grain and corn. Increase the production of essential products – flour, vegetable oil and rice."

Regarding the reservation of this type of product, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Jahon Azonov recommends: "This type of product is used in our country by every family. If the conditions are met, then it can be stored for a long time. Like legumes, rice should be stored in airtight boxes in a cool, dark place. As packaging, it is better to use special plastic food containers (PETE) and glass jars, they should be tightly closed. "

As studies conducted at Utah State University (the largest and most important higher education institution of Utah in the United States) show, if these conditions are met, rice can be stored for up to 30 years, during which time it does not lose its taste and aroma. It should be noted that 2 varieties of polished and parboiled rice were used in the study.

Rice is a tropical crop that requires a lot of moisture and heat. Experts recommend plowing rice lands in the fall. This is because the land in the rice fields is constantly underwater and does not receive enough oxygen to inhale. Also, before autumn plowing, spraying of 200-400 kg of superphosphate is considered necessary per hectare. Because rice absorbs water up to 25-30 percent of its weight and begins to germinate at a temperature of +15-16 degrees. The higher the water temperature, the faster the rice grows.

Doctors emphasize the healing properties of rice and recommend eating it for the treatment of several diseases. In their opinion, regular consumption of rice reduces the risk of developing cancer, that is, a intestinal tumor. Rice is a source of some B vitamins that calm the nerves and help improve skin condition, keep nails and hair in good condition.

A week ago, Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries introduced a new variety of flavored rice called Champei Sar 70 (CPS 70), which was the result of nearly a decade of research and development.

The cultivation of CPS 70 rice was made possible through the collaboration of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Development of Cambodia and Australia after 9 years of research and 80 field trials during the dry and wet seasons.

CPS 70 was derived from the Cambodian rice variety Phka Rumduol from CNi9024, which at one time received various awards. It is said that CPS 70 is a fragrant rice that grows for three months.
