Emergency declared in 6 districts of Zhambyl region due to water shortage

ASTANA, August 22 - Sputnik. In six districts of the Zhambyl region, the akimat declared a natural emergency regime on a regional scale.

The emergency mode operates in Bayzak, Zhambyl, Kordai, Merken, Ryskulov and Talas regions.

"The issue of allocating funds from the emergency reserve of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to cover the losses of farmers caused by abnormally hot weather and lack of water in the above-mentioned districts of the region is being resolved," the akimat of the region reports.

It is expected that due to lack of irrigation water and abnormally hot weather this year, crop losses will be about 25-30% compared to last year.

In six districts of the region, the joint work of working groups and research institutes on the calculation of damage continues. The amount of damage caused to peasant farms will be determined before the end of the growing season, and in the coming days the area of unsuitable fields and the amount of losses will be specified.

In this regard, the akim of the Zhambyl region set a protocol task for the responsible persons to strictly monitor the legality of calculating the amount of damage to farmers.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, about 7.8 thousand hectares of crops were affected in the region due to the low water flow from Kyrgyzstan.
