Billionaire Elon Musk is returning to the U.S. government as an official advisor. He will co-lead the Pentagon’s "Meridian" project, which focuses on studying future warfare.
Joining Musk in leading the project are Anduril founder Palmer Luckey and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
According to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, the project aims to identify the technologies and capabilities the U.S. will need for future conflicts. The findings of the study are due within 120 days.
Musk had previously left his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in 2025 following a disagreement with Donald Trump, though the two later reconciled.
