Electrically stimulating socks for diabetic patients have been developed in Switzerland

The Minerva subsidiary of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich has developed an innovative medical sock called Leia. The device is designed to restore foot sensation in patients with diabetic neuropathy through electrical neurostimulation. The Leia sock contains pressure sensors, an artificial intelligence processor and electrode tissues that process signals during walking and stimulate nerve activity.
The project is financially supported by the US FDA. Long-term clinical trials will begin in the coming months. The product is scheduled for production and sale in 2027.
The Leia sock is expected to improve the quality of life for millions of people suffering from diabetic neuropathy.
