Eight-year prison sentence of Akmal Shukurov, who sent a man into a coma with a single punch, replaced with restriction of freedom

Akmal Shukurov, who knocked Boris Avakyan into a coma with a single punch outside a hotel in Tashkent, has been released from custody following a decision by the appellate court.

The court of first instance found Shukurov guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to eight years and one month in prison. However, the appellate panel of the Tashkent City Court reviewed the verdict, replaced the prison term with a sentence of restriction of freedom, and released him directly in the courtroom.

The court cited partial admission of guilt, remorse, the absence of claims from the victims, and full compensation for material damage as reasons for reducing the sentence. Damages related to fraud were fully compensated, while no claims were filed by victims in the cases of hooliganism and bodily injury.

Earlier, it was reported that Boris Avakyan, who sustained serious injuries in a fight outside a hotel in Tashkent, had come out of a coma.
