Ebola outbreak: WHO declares emergency

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international emergency over the Ebola outbreak in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

There are currently 246 suspected cases of the disease, with 80 deaths. Eight cases of the virus have been confirmed in the laboratory. The WHO says the outbreak has not yet reached pandemic levels, but the risk of spreading is high. The disease has also been reported in neighboring Uganda, raising the risk of it spreading across borders.

Ebola is a severe infection transmitted through bodily fluids, causing dangerous symptoms such as high fever, weakness and internal bleeding. The WHO has recommended rapid isolation of infected people and increased surveillance.
