Sky News Arabia reports that after the operation of the only two power plants in the north and south of Lebanon was stopped, the electricity supply was cut off in the whole country.
On August 16, the operator of the Primesouth power plant warned that it would turn off electricity due to non-payment of debts in foreign currency. We are talking about the amount of 83 million dollars, of which Electricité du Liban (Electricity Corporation of Lebanon) has paid only about 2 million dollars, the Veto portal reports, citing the Lebanese television and radio company.
According to Sky News Arabia sources, the country's state institutions, as well as Beirut International Airport, were left without electricity. Due to the interruption of the electricity supply, the work of stations supplying drinking water to most areas of Lebanon has been stopped.
In 2022, Lebanon remained without electricity. In the village of Aramoun near Beirut, the power supply was cut off due to a dispute over a power plant. There, local residents protested against regular power outages and tried to break into the station. As a result, the entire electrical network failed. Eyewitnesses reported that Beirut International Airport was also temporarily out of power.
