Donald Trump harshly criticizes Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show

“An affront to the Greatness of America”

While Bad Bunny was making history on one of the world’s most prestigious stages, Donald Trump called the artist’s message of unity “an affront to the Greatness of America.”

Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny made history as the first male Latin artist to perform solo at the Super Bowl halftime show during the NFL championship game. His performance was entirely in Spanish and combined various musical styles, including reggaeton, salsa, and Latin trap. Guest appearances included Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, as well as cameos by Pedro Pascal, Karol G, Cardi B, and Jessica Alba.

One of the world’s most-streamed artists, Bad Bunny expanded the meaning of the phrase “God Bless America”, interpreting it as a concept that includes all nations of the American continent.

“God bless America — whether it’s Chile or Argentina,”
Bad Bunny said while naming more than 20 countries from North and South America.

He ended the show with a message of unity: the words “Together, we are America” appeared on a ball, while a large screen displayed the message:
“The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

Such sentiments are difficult to oppose, but that did not stop Donald Trump. Trump and his supporters had been angry for months over the organizers’ choice, calling it “crazy,” “un-American,” and “terrible.” His supporters also criticized Bad Bunny for singing in Spanish and complained that he has no songs in English.

Trump’s anger grew further after Bad Bunny won a Grammy Award and made a protest statement against the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Trump sharply criticized the performance in a lengthy post on Truth Social, once again calling it “an affront to the Greatness of America.”

“The Super Bowl halftime show was absolutely terrible, one of the WORST EVER!
It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and does not represent our standards of success, creativity, or excellence,” Trump wrote.

“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children watching across the U.S. and around the world.
This ‘show’ is a slap in the face to our country. Of course, the fake news media will praise it because they have no idea what is going on in the REAL WORLD,” he added angrily.

The alternative show streamed online drew around 4 million views, with up to 6 million concurrent viewers on YouTube. By comparison, the Super Bowl typically attracts an average of 127 million viewers. Last year, Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show set a record with 133.5 million viewers.

Official viewership numbers for Bad Bunny’s performance have not yet been released, but preliminary estimates suggest it may have surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s figures. In any case, it is clear that the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show reached a significantly larger audience than the “All American” show.
