Diwali toys in India leave 14 children blind

In India, during the Diwali celebrations, cases of eye injuries among children have surged due to homemade chemical toys. Over the past three days, more than 120 children have been hospitalized with eye damage, and 14 of them have completely lost their sight.
Experts say these toys are actually dangerous explosive devices. They are made from plastic or metal tubes filled with a mixture of calcium carbide and water, which triggers a violent chemical reaction that causes serious injuries.
Priced at just 150–200 rupees (around 2–2.5 USD), these toys are being called for a total ban due to severe safety risks.
