Kazakhstan plans to introduce differentiated gas tariffs, Acting Energy Minister Bulat Akchulakov said.

"Domestic consumption of natural gas has increased significantly, namely by more than 2 billion cubic meters compared to 2020," Akchulakov reported at a government meeting.

In order to provide the domestic market with gas, the Ministry of Energy together with interested enterprises:

legislative changes have been adopted to stimulate gas production;

work is underway to implement new gas processing plants at the Kashagan and Karachaganak fields;

Agreements have been reached with Gazprom on gas imports within the framework of the signed roadmap.

As a result, starting from this year, it is expected to increase the production of commercial gas with a significant increase in 2025, Akchulakov added.

"Gas prices for the population must be restrained. However, consumers with high incomes also continue to use low gas prices," the head of the department noted.

According to him, with a temperature difference of almost 2 times, the consumption of Mangystau and Kostanay regions remains the same on average - 600 cubic meters of gas per month. Thus, maintaining low gas prices leads to its irrational use, the speaker concluded.
